Longueuil police backed up by canine units from Montreal, Sherbrooke and the Sûreté du Québec launched a series of early morning raids Tuesday aimed at breaking a drug trafficking ring that dealt in cocaine, cannabis and methamphetamine.

As of 8 a.m., six men and four women between the ages of 17 and 43 had been arrested at residences in Brossard, St-Hubert, Longueuil, Candiac and La Prairie. More arrests were expected over the course of the day.

About 130 police officers were deployed in the raids, the latest chapter of an investigation that began last May. The suspects arrested thus far are being questioned at Longueuil police headquarters and are expected to appear in court Wednesday to face charges of drug trafficking and conspiracy.

Raids are continuing and Longueuil police expect to provide an update on their results later on Tuesday.
